Circo de Albert Dock

It was a quiet, chilled atmosphere away from the chaos of the Christmas city shoppers at Circo on Sunday afternoon. A perfect location to celebrate the old birds birthday. The polar bear at the bottom of the staircase was my favourite feature, I wanted to take him home with me.

The cab ride home was very festive.

It's coming around again

I can't believe how fast its come around again. What a year! Lots of travelling, catching up with old buddies, meeting some great new people, heart aches, heart attacks, all of the above.

I'm listening to the Sufjan Stevens Christmas album to get into the Christmas mood. You can download some of the songs here:

This has to be the most perfect family Christmas portrait ever.

Capital 'F'

The Christmas party was in Manchester this year which was a great location. It was held at the Great John Street Hotel which was very posh. I stayed in a room there and didn't want to leave. The day after was really sunny so I walked through town and did some shopping. Found this capital 'F' building which was just one of the more interesting pieces of architecture in the city.

One of my colleagues at the party was wearing a great shirt. It was a collection of romance novel book spines and on the cuffs was a full cover. It was pretty amazing.

Fancy footwork

I have to admit that I was worried about how the Liverpool One development would work out. From what I have seen up to now I am more than impressed. The overall design of the area is very beautiful but there are also little gems like the walkway from Q park with its futuristic angles of light. Also, the circular shaped elevators and stairway access from the underground parking which has a strong impression of the Guggenheim in New York.

Stardust Ruins

The artist Liliane Lijn was featured in the BBC documentary Imagine: Let There Be Light. Her work consists of material that NASA use to collect stardust. She uses it to study light. Its fascinating and compelling minuature artworks create beautiful lightforms.

The programme was full of amazing light exhibitions.

Liverpool Lantern Parade

The lantern parade in Sefton Park last night was spectacular. Spooky characters were lurking at every corner while eerie music played in the background. The parade was lit with laser beams and swirling lights that followed the paper lanterns through the park.

There was a magnificent finale with fireworks and flying ghosts around a lantern moon.

My friend Frank stole the show in his crocodile outfit.

The parade is free and takes place every year on Halloween in Sefton Park, Liverpool. You can learn more about the Liverpool Lantern Company here:

I just watched a great movie called Eagle V's Shark. Its an alternative love story starring the guy from Flight of the Concords. Its a very sweet tale and I fully recommend it. The soundtrack is ace too.

Lightmakers

Last night in Calderstones park there was an amazing lightshow called Powerplant. The artists were using natural elements from the park to create amazing light and sound effects.

Some of the lights were really amazing.

change my name to something more productive like Roscoe

I just noticed on the song Roscoe on the Midlake album, the word Roscoe is sang exactly in the middle of the song. I wonder if it was intentional. Here is what it looks like in the iTunes visualiser.

Blackpool Illuminations

The North West's answer to Santa Cruz.

It was a lovely hot day. We played miniature golf, rode the roller coasters and walked along the pier eating doughnuts and candy floss. I had forgotten how much fun the waltzer was. I did feel a bit ill once it was all over though. Its probably the best time Ive had since coming back from Cali.

Mossley Skies

How pretty do you speak?

I am currently doing some experimentation with the new i-tunes visualiser. I am interested in seeing how different voices talking about certain subject matters look when played through the i-tunes visualiser. I have done two quick examples using a speech from George Bush senior talking about attacks on Iraq and the famous Martin Luther King 'I had a dream' speech. The results were as follows:

Martin Luther King

George Bush Snr

It isn't Lake Havasu or the Grand Canyon, but the sunrise over Mossley Hill was still pretty impressive and its right outside my window.
